I thought I'd drop an extra review this week to attempt to make up for my lack of reviews as of late. This is a shorter one but it's the thought that counts, right?
House of Chocolates is an amusing game much along the lines of Bejeweled and every other game that requires you to match three of something in a row to score points. This one requires you to highlight every square in the allotted time in order to advance to the next level.
Nice features include a pause button which some games annoyingly lack. You can also submit you high score if you are registered.
While it might make you hungry in the process, this game is worth checking out if you are into these type of puzzle games. It’s pretty much like all of the other ones but it will keep you amused for a while.

Plunk Pool Game
Another week, seven days away from my computer. Everything should be back to normal and I hope to have regular updates again this week.
This is a fun pool game. Rather than just a boring game of 9 ball or something similar, you must sink the balls in a certain amount of shots. You get bonuses for sinking multiple balls, coming in under par, and for ricocheting shots.
The controls are very simple and intuitive in this game. It is just a matter of pointing the mouse and clicking. By moving the mouse further away from the ball you hit a more powerful shot.
There are three difficulty levels with 9 “courses” on each level. Once you beat a level you unlock it in free mode and can go back and play it when you like. I got through the easy level with no difficulty, only losing on one course. It gets considerably more difficult on normal and hard though.
If you like pool games, this is definitely worth checking out and even if not I believe you’ll find this to be fun and worth a look.

Doodle Defender Game
There's nothing that drives me crazier than being cut off from the internet for several days. I survived but just barely. So that explains the lack of updates last week. I'll be in and out this week but should hopefully have internet so look for more updates later. Anyway, onto the review.
This game is a very unique take on old spaceship games like space invaders and asteroid. You can draw your own ship as a doodle and pilot it around and destroy other doodle ships. You fly across a notebook page earning money and experience. Money can then be spent on upgrades for your ship such as double guns, bombs, and extra lives.
I don’t see this game as having a lot of re-playability but it is a very novel concept and amusing to say the least. It’s definitely worth a few minutes of your time if for no other reason than to fly around in a doodle spaceship that you drew. If these are your type of game though you might really get into it as the controls are simple and unconfusing. Overall the gameplay is great and worth your time to check out.
Here's the link. It's outside of this site though, just thought I'd warn you. http://armorgames.com/play/1840/doodle-defender-2

Boomshine Game
This is a very amusing game involving bubbles. You must pop a specified number of bubbles with one click. Clicking causes your bubble to expand for about two seconds. Any bubble that comes on contact with an expanded bubble will then expand. You can set off chain reactions with this and pop numerous bubbles then.
There is a strategy to this but some of it comes down to luck, making it both fun and slightly frustrating at times. There were numerous times that I missed continuing a chain by a fraction of a second.
There are 12 levels in total, the last one requiring you to get 55 of the 60 bubbles. It’s a challenge but you can do it with a bit of timing and luck.

Sim Taxi Game
This game seems like it can be a lot of fun but navigation is a bit tricky. You earn money by taking passengers to where they want to go. You must avoid damage to your car and pay attention to your gas. Both can be replenished but you have to have the money to do so. The first time I played it I destroyed my car before earning any money. The amount of money you earn drops the longer you take to get a passenger to their destination.
The second time I played I finally understood how to work the nav system and could find where passengers wanted to go. This made gameplay much better and I could actually earn money. In probably 20 minutes I had enough money to buy some good upgrades.
The nicest feature is that you can save up to five games so everyone can play if they like and you don’t have to be a game zombie in order to earn everything you want in one sitting. Overall worth checking out but frustrating if it takes you a while to figure out the nav system.

Penguin Defender
Maybe this will appease the SPCA after my cruel kitten game. :)
For those of you who are animal lovers, this is the game for you. Your job is to rescue baby penguins. Use your mouse to guide mother penguin through the water to find the lost babies and guide them back to safety. Along the way you must defend against (and eat) dangerous fish.
There is a time limit to finding all your lost babies and you must watch your health as well. Fortunately there are three difficulty levels you can play at so you can choose which is best for you.
As cute as this game was, I just couldn’t get into it for some reason. The controls weren’t bad and the gameplay wasn’t bad either. It probably just isn’t quite my type of game. Others may really enjoy it.

Kitten Cannon Game
I'll have a regular post later today but I thought I'd share this one with you. This is amusing if not cruel. I'm not advocating cat violence because I love my cats, but shooting a cat out of a cannon is really funny. There's really no strategy, it's all pretty random. You control the angle and power of the shot and see how far you can go.

Conquer Antarctica Game
I probably won't do too many Sunday posts but this one was too amusing to wait to post...
This is a massively fun game that people familiar with the game Worms will certainly enjoy. You are a penguin floating on an iceberg. You are trying to take over Antarctica by knocking other penguins off their icebergs. To do this you fire snowballs out of a bazooka to injure or otherwise knock off the penguins.
There are only nine levels but I find this game to be very replayable. While there is strategy and skill, some of it comes down to dumb luck as well. Sometimes it takes the opponent forever to knock you off, other times you are out in two turns. Beyond the general fun of playing the game, the voices are very amusing and very Worm-esque as well.
The bottom line is that if you’re a fan of Worms you’ll definitely enjoy this game. If you’ve never played it before there’s a good chance you’ll still enjoy this game.

Glassworks Game
This is a very amusing puzzle game that is different from the typical cookie cutter puzzle games out there. You have an object that you must fill with pieces of glass. There are various shapes but you get more points for fitting the bigger pieces in. Therefore you must strategize how you will get the most big pieces on your object. Each piece can be rotated to fit any way and fill the object.
If you pick up a piece that you can’t use, you lose points back trashing it. Also, the clock is working against you, so you must work quickly. As the levels advance new shapes are added to increase the difficulty.
Overall this is an easy game to master the controls of and a fun game overall. It comes highly recommended.

Lemonade Millionaire
Well, it's the 4th of July and what better way to enjoy it than with a nice cold glass of lemonade? I'm starting the game reviews with one of my favorites that I've played in a while and an appropriate game for today - Sim Lemonade Millionaire. I'll post a couple more today as well, just to get the ball rolling. I have several games already up on the site that you can check out as well.
In this game you sell lemonade. You have to decide what recipe to use, set your price and buy your stock for the day. You can also advertise, choose a location, and upgrade your facilities. This is much more addicting as there is more variety but in the end it still is repetitive. Depending on your attention span you may love this or grow tired of it quickly.
If you haven't played this before you might want to check out a less complex sort of 30 day demo until you get the hang of it. It won't take long though.
A couple of hints: I didn’t find it worth my bother to advertise at all, my popularity just kept rising on its own. Also, with rising popularity I kept raising my prices and never topped them out but my guess is you shouldn’t raise them too fast. Also, location seemed to not matter as I had full business at every location so you can stay at the cheapest place and make the highest profit.

Getting Started
Well, it's July 1st, 2008 and this is my first post. What is the point of this blog? It is designed to point out some fun, free online games that you might be interested in playing. And also point out some that you might want to avoid as well.
There's nothing to sell here, no gimmick to push - just simple family friendly fun. I play games online so it doesn't take much to pass on my advice to other people who might find it valuable and enjoy the same things I do.
I plan to do 2-3 updates a week, giving you reviews on new games that you might enjoy. I'll provide links to the games and when possible even host the games on my site in a less ad obtrusive environment.
The bottom line, take my advice for what it's worth and check out the games that sound interesting.
